Mike Press Shiraz 2009
2013 marks Mike Press' 50th year in the wine game. This 2009 was released around 3 years ago, long since sold out. A warmer year was 2009, but that actually helped Mike up on a cool site in them thar Adelaide Hills.I didn't realise that I'd actually written this up before, here, and it's good to see an evolution in addition to consistent themes remaining.
Opens with a mix of sweet oak, a little movement to Maltiness, fruit by way of a little Damson and Blackberry, sweet spice in the fray.
Medium bodied, there's oak sensibly present, a little sour acidic note nicely pitched against the fruit and oak. Has the feel of freshening and enlivening the palate, pulling you in for more. Incredibly more-ish wine.
Tannin is ultra-fine; silky, velvety and slippery - yet with a delightful savoury edge. Hints of charred meat touch on the finish. So easy to drink and right now giving glimpses as to where it is heading. Still, hold for 2-3 years. 92 - Very Good
