Mike Press Shiraz 2009

2013 marks Mike Press' 50th year in the wine game. This 2009 was released around 3 years ago, long since sold out. A warmer year was 2009, but that actually helped Mike up on a cool site in them thar Adelaide Hills.

I didn't realise that I'd actually written this up before, here, and it's good to see an evolution in addition to consistent themes remaining.

Opens with a mix of sweet oak, a little movement to Maltiness, fruit by way of a little Damson and Blackberry, sweet spice in the fray.

Medium bodied, there's oak sensibly present, a little sour acidic note nicely pitched against the fruit and oak. Has the feel of freshening and enlivening the palate, pulling you in for more. Incredibly more-ish wine.

Tannin is ultra-fine; silky, velvety and slippery - yet with a delightful savoury edge. Hints of charred meat touch on the finish. So easy to drink and right now giving glimpses as to where it is heading. Still, hold for 2-3 years. 92 - Very Good
