Third vintage of Chapel Hill's Mataro tasted (after the 2009 and 2010). Has that familiar damp and heady, plum and black cherry, spice-tinged nose. Shows a little oak too, just in support. Touch of herbal, woody character that has been evidenced in cooler vintages.
Lighter in body, spice and pepper laden; fine, powdery/ dusty tannin. Really enjoyed its sense of composure smoothness, with an almost fluffy feel to the wine in mouth.
Finishes with a bitter, licorice and chocolate twist - sustained presence. Just lacks a bit of depth, a product of its time and place. 89 - Good
