d'Arenberg The Anthropocene Era Mencia 2017

Second release of a Mencia as a varietal, from the d'Arenberg crew.

Mencia is interesting and this example is no exception. The wine in question combines a dark fruit mix against an - almost - sulphurous and slightly reductive edge. Primary, somewhat raw, like a fermenting mass. In your glass. Intriguing, inviting.

Light to medium bodied, dark and brooding. Possesses a charred edge, like grilled capsicums. The tannin profile provides a coarser edge to the wine's initial lightness, a welcoming contrast.

A bit arms and legs, pleasurable experience nonetheless. 89
