A tribute to the patriarch of the Costanzo clan, and the man that winemaker (son) Ray Costanzo credits with being a pioneer of alternative varieties: Sam Costanzo. Respect.
Tilled earth, black cherry, subtle hints of roasted meats. Oak serves to frame this up, almost nutty in profile. Light and supple palate, a contrast to what one might expect from the aromatics. Fruit first, with twists of spice, a Cherry ripe element, perhaps some hickory smoke adding - and aiding - depth and length.
Sometime you come across a wine that is in the mould of the winemaker, or perhaps here in the mould of its muse, deep and yet flexible - a complex wine, and yet at ease. 93
