Coppabella The Crest Chardonnay 2017

--> Pretty cool Chardonnay here, vines planted to 650m elevation. It's whole bunch pressed straight to barrel (30% new). No malo, acid central, and a little battonage for building complexity. There's a small portion that's tank fermented separately. Considered winemaking!

Aromatic complexity, freshness and depth. There's stonefruit at its core, pithy grapefruit and a touch of residual oak - as if each is working in concentric circles.

Palate depth and width, that time on lees leaving its mark. There's an element of - something like - caramelised and spiced cashew, suggesting more oak influence than perhaps specs would suggest.

Another fine Chardonnay from this producer, keeping fruit presence, adding texture, and maintaining a fine line of acidity keeping it all together. 92
