The Costanzo family founded Golden Grove Estate back in 1990. In more recent years son Ray has taken on the winemaking reigns, honing and establishing the core range, before pushing on to somewhat more alternative varieties, and subtly tweaking things.
In a recent cellar door tasting, across the range the wines were looking fine, with fruit primacy not sacrificed and yet structure retained.
This 2017 example (click for 2018), last year's release - and the observant will note there's been a brand refresh since - was picked up in retail land. Bit of detail: 13% is whole bunch fermented and overall 65% of the wine is wild yeast fermented.
It opens with plum, mulberry, hints of dark and sour cherry. Light, supple and expressive across the palate. Certainly in the Joven style as per the title - the dark fruits pervade.
A delicate and fine crunch of tannin adds a little bite across the final third, bloody moreish to boot. You'd happily see this off in a session. 91
